CHRISTOPHE TISSOT’S SHOW
Rencontre

The encounter is one of the themes we find repeatedly in the work and oeuvre of Christophe Tissot.
This series painted on kraft paper with tempera and oil pastel in 2018 refers to the famous tale of Pinocchio written by Carlo Collodi in 1881, as well as to some of the artist’s own autobiographical details.
Through 13 1.40 x 1.60 m. paintings, the main character walks along accompanied by his conscience’s guardian: the cock. On the way, he crosses paths with one or two people who will test his innocence.
Smiles and tragedy emerge from this narrative depiction which also smacks a little of the engraving. They get us to “listen” to the painting like a tale.
This work also calls to mind the Japanese ukiyo-e much appreciated by the artist, because those “floating” or intermediary worlds, restore to painting its poetic illusory power.
